Circular Economy

Circular Economy

The circular economy is central to Odisha’s long-term sustainability and industrial resilience. As the state continues to expand its industrial base, urban infrastructure, and consumption patterns, traditional linear models of resource use are becoming increasingly unsustainable.

A circular economy shifts the focus from “take-make-dispose” to systems that prioritise resource efficiency, waste reduction, material recovery, and value retention across supply chains. For Odisha, this transition is especially relevant given its strong industrial presence, growing urban centres, and availability of diverse material streams.

The Odisha Cleantech Association (OCA) works to promote circular economy principles that are practical, economically viable, and aligned with Odisha’s development priorities.

Circular Economy Landscape in Odisha

Odisha’s circular economy potential spans multiple sectors and value chains:

  • Industrial by-products and waste from manufacturing and processing industries

  • Municipal solid waste and organic waste streams from urban centres

  • Construction and demolition materials from infrastructure development

  • Agricultural residues and biomass resources

Integrating circularity into these systems can reduce environmental impact, lower input costs for industry, and create new economic opportunities across recycling, recovery, and remanufacturing.
